SIKESTON -- Paul R. Bumbarger, 90, of Memphis, Tenn., died Friday, June 11, 1999, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis.
He was born Nov. 27, 1908, in Memphis, Mo., son of John Vance and Edna Weaver Bumbarger. He and Virginia Whitehead were married June 15, 1934, in West Point, Miss.
Bumbarger was a journalist at the Sikeston Standard 25 years, serving as city editor from 1941-43 and from 1963-72.
He was a member of Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church and served on its board, was a member of Sikeston Rotary Club, and served on the Sikeston Library Board.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Janet VanDoren of McLean, Va.; a sister, Mary Raine of Kansas City; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel after 3 p.m. Saturday.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. The Rev. Rufus C. McLean Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
