ADVANCE, Mo. -- Paul John "Pops" Beussink, 82, of Advance passed away Friday, April 18, 20214, at Saint Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau with family at his side.
He was born Aug. 3, 1931, to the late Henry and Mary VanDermierden Beussink of Glennon, Mo.
On Oct. 23, 1954, he married Julia "Judy" Anna Schmitt from Leopold, Mo., in the beautiful St. John's Church in Leopold. They were married 59 years.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Debie Beussink; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Chris Beussink; grandson Derek and wife Cindy Beussink; grandson, Jack Beussink; great-grandchildren, Keera, Kaylen and Zane. Paul was the second-oldest of seven siblings and is survived by his brothers Eugene, Ed, Henry and Stanley, and sisters Norma and Rosemary.
He was preceded in death by stepgrandson Aaron Masters and brother Ernest Beussink.
Pops was best known for his love of family and friends, enjoying meals with all of us and helping others in the community. He spent countless hours volunteering and fundraising for the Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph Church and the VFW. He and wife Judy operated the Advance Food Locker for years and were blessed with many loyal customers in the surrounding area.
We will miss his early morning phone calls, coffee shop talk and lunch wagon runs during the farming season.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance, with parish prayers at 7 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev, Randy Tochtrop officiating.
Burial will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, with full military rites.
