Patty Verline Lynn, 75, of Jackson passed away Monday, March 4, 2013, at her home.
She was born March 10, 1937, in Pittsburg, Fayette County, Ill., to Ernest Verlin and Lois Tedrick Kern. She was raised by her father and stepmother Agnes Mize Kern. She and William Hector Lynn were married Oct. 26, 1957, in Corinth, Miss. He died March 15, 2002.
Patty graduated from Granite City High School and received a bachelor of science in nursing from Southern Illinois Uiversity.
She worked for 10 years for the state of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, receiving the Adoption Worker of the Year Award in 1982. She then worked for 20 years for the University of Illinois-Chicago as a nurse consultant.
Moving to Jackson in 1998 from Granite City, Ill., she joined New McKendree United Methodist Church. She was a member of UMW, church quilters and Ester Circle and taught Fellowship Sunday school class. Patty also was a volunteer with Jackson Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry, Lutheran Social Services and the Missouri Veterans Home.
Survivors include two sons, David (Christine) Warren of Jackson and Mark Lynn and wife Kathy Kelly of Stewart, Fla.; a daughter, Candice (David) Schuchardt of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; two brothers Ron (Gloria) Joyce of Lebanon, Ill., and Ernie (Marsha) Kern of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Pamela (Mark) Gray of Litchfield, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Mary Kern of Fenton, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Rachel, Leah, Savannah, Isabel and Sawyer.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Tony Kern.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to time of service Friday at New McKendree United Methodist Church.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Revs. Jimmie Corbin, David Israel and Nathan Joyce officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memorial Cemetery in Edwardsville, Ill.
