SIKESTON, Mo. -- Opal L. Newton, 78, of Sikeston died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Clearview Nursing Center. She was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Obion, Tenn., daughter of Marvin and Daisy Ladd Fausett. She and R.L. Newton were married Feb. 17, 1940. He died Feb. 6, 1998...

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Opal L. Newton, 78, of Sikeston died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Clearview Nursing Center.

She was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Obion, Tenn., daughter of Marvin and Daisy Ladd Fausett. She and R.L. Newton were married Feb. 17, 1940. He died Feb. 6, 1998.

Newton was a member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Don and Ron Newton of Sikeston; a daughter, Brenda Newton of Belzoni, Miss.; a brother, Randall Fausett of Lansing, Mich.; two sisters, Legretta Siplut of Sikeston, Bernice Greenway of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters.

Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. John Tarter will officiate. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
