OPAL NEWMAN

SIKESTON -- Opal V. Newman, 75, of Sikeston died Monday, April 17, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born July 15, 1924, in Portageville, daughter of John Henry and Versie Anna Rogers Ling. She and Lois Newman were married Aug. 8, 1942, at New Madrid.

Newman lived at Oran from 1949 until moving to Sikeston in 1977. She was an Avon representative many years, and had been a volunteer at Missouri Delta Medical Center. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Marsha Hammock of Plano, Texas; a brother, Edwin Ling of New Madrid; two sisters, Marcellia Shelby of Sikeston, Phyllis Landers of Alton, Ill.; and three grandsons.

She was preceded in death by a daughter.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Allen Basham officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
