Opal Matilda Maurer, 80, 209 Pindwood, died Sunday, March 9, 1997, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born May 29, 1916, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Fred and Minnie Geringer. She and Gussie Maurer were married Feb. 24, 1946, at Cape Girardeau. He died Sept. 15, 1979.

Maurer was employed by Auto Tire and Parts for 17 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, Cathedral Ladies and the Notre Dame Booster Club.

Survivors include three sons, James Maurer of Cape Girardeau, and Ronald and Donald Maurer, both of St. Louis; three daughters, Diana Siebert and Jody Grim, both of Cape Girardeau, and Vickie Westrich of Kelso; a sister, Alma Stammer of Cape Girardeau; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel. The family may call at 3 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with Monsignor Richard Rolwing officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
