SCOTT CITY -- Opal Hazel Houston, 82, of Kaufman, Texas, died Thursday, July 14, 1994, at her home.
She was born April 30, 1912, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of J.A. and Dora West Gearing. She and D.W. "Sam" Houston were married Jan. 5, 1940, at Wellston. He died Oct. 13, 1981.
Houston was a retired bookkeeper.
Formerly of Scott City, she was a former member of Illmo Baptist Church, YWA leader and Sunday School teacher, and member of Scott City Senior Citizens. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Kemp, Texas, and a senior volunteer at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Survivors include a daughter, Dora Jones of Kaufman; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Scott City after noon Sunday.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Illmo Baptist Church, with the Revs. Mickey Loftis, Ray Rhyne and Leland Holland officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery.
