Oma L. Linebarger Brooks, 97, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, April 18, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born Jan. 17, 1908, at Sedgewickville, Mo., daughter of James Edward and Ida May Cook Linebarger. She married Lloyd Given Brooks, who passed away in 1956.

Mrs. Brooks was a shoe dresser at Florsheim Shoe Co. from 1934 to 1975. She was a member of Third Street United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women 74 years, now known as Oma Brooks Society; taught Sunday school more than 60 years, former treasurer of UMW, and was named United Methodist Woman of the Year at the denominational general conference in 2000. She was a member of Eastern Star and a former worthy high priestess.

She is survived by a son, Donald Wayne Brooks and wife Uta of Idaho Falls, Idaho; two grandchildren, Robert Lloyd Brooks and wife Robin of Lewiston, Idaho, Tanya Ann-Marie Brooks Culbreath and husband Bradley of Missoula, Mont.; two great-grandsons, Zackary William and Tyler Wayne Culbreath of Missoula; two nephews, James Edward Green and Howard Gene Linebarger of Cape Girardeau; six nieces, Delores Mary Gerhardt, Joyce Leigh Nussbaum, Carolyn June Kelly and Jo Ellen Schneier, all of Cape Girardeau, Judith Grace Sawley of state of Florida, and Nancy Stone of St. Louis.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Janet Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Church Elevator Fund.
