CAIRO, Ill. -- Graveside service for Norman Remington Halliday of Cairo will be held at 2 p.m. today at Beechwood Cemetery in Mounds. The Rev. Raymond L. Holly will officiate.
Barkett Funeral Home at Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
Halliday, 72, died Monday, July 3, 1995, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
He was born Feb. 7, 1923, in Cairo, son of Norman R. and Laura Clendenen Halliday Sr. He and Phyllis Thomas were married Nov. 25, 1970.
Halliday attended New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell prior to serving with the military in World War II. He then received an undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, and advance degrees from Southern Illinois University and Southeast Missouri State University.
He was a teacher at Cairo Public Schools and at Five-County Regional Adult Center, retiring in 1989. He was serving on the Cairo Public Library Board of Trustees. He was a former member and president of Beechwood Cemetery Association.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Laura Halliday of Carbondale, Elizabeth Thurston of Cairo, and a granddaughter.
