Norman V. "Sonny" Niswonger, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at Fountainbleau Lodge.
He was born July 25, 1930, in Cape Girardeau to Freeman D. and Ruby Luedith Henry Niswonger. He and Elma Janene Wampler were married Oct. 24, 2007, in Cape Girardeau.
He graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. Sonny had worked on the river for Huffman Towing Co. 15 years and retired in 1993 from Ceramo Co. Inc. in Jackson.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Janene Givens-Niswonger of Jackson; a stepson, Gary W. Smith of Jackson; a stepdaughter, Laura M. Friedhof of Oak Ridge; two granddaughters, Kirsten Oliver and Sarah Rutledge; and two stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, two brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
