JACKSON -- Funeral mass for Norman D. Hughes of Jackson will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cairo, Ill. The Rev. Jerome Fortenberry will officiate, with burial in Calvary Cemetery at Villa Ridge, Ill.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo. The rosary will be recited at 7:30.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Hughes, 76, died Thursday, Sept. 8, 1994, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Aug. 10, 1918, in Cairo, son of Harry D. and Lynnette Swoboda Hughes. He married the former Rose Lucille Walder.
Hughes was a retired supervisor with Illinois Department of Public Aid. He was former owner/operator of Union Bus Station, Chrysler-Plymouth Auto Agency, and H&W Auto Supply, all in Cairo. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1027 in Cairo, and St. Patrick's Church. He attended Immaculate Conception Church.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Carolyn Hughes of Jackson, Adrienne Berry of Paducah, Ky., Nancy Joiner of Burfordville; two sons, Norman Hughes of Scott City, Michael Hughes of Barlow, Ky.; a brother, Raymond Hughes of Cairo; 15 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two infant sons.
