FARMINGTON, Mo. -- Norman Ray Black of Farmington entered into eternal rest Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023, at Mercy Hospital South at the age of 87.
He was born Aug. 11, 1936, in Owls Bend, Missouri, to the late Charley and Fay Moss Black.
Norman earned his bachelor's degree in education from Murray (Kentucky) State University and his master's degree in education from Webster University in Webster Groves, Missouri. He taught middle school social studies for North County School District for more than 30 years.
Norman was an active member of First Baptist Church since 1975. He taught Sunday school, assisted with funeral dinners and went on numerous church trips. He was a volunteer for Farmington Ministerial Alliance and the food pantry. He was a collector of many things and enjoyed reading, visiting the local library, going to flea markets and auctions and traveling throughout the United States with his wife, Helen.
He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Norman is survived by his daughters, Laurie Black and Kay (John) Griffin, both of Farmington; grandchildren, Chad (Sabrina) Griffin, Katie (Robbie) Britt and Corenna (Guy) Haney; great-grandchildren, Byron (Tina), Morgan, Marah, Asher, Ethan, Ellie, Bradi and Halle; stepdaughter, Carol Ann (Mike Huffman) Welch of Farmington; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, and his special canine companion, Sassy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Loretta Daugherty Black; his second wife, Helen Moring Black; grandson, Brad Griffin; and siblings, JoAnn (the late Ed) Grisham and Gene (the late Ruthie) Black.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday, Oct. 30, at Cozean Memorial Chapel in Farmington.
Funeral will be at noon Monday, Oct. 30, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Alan Berry. Private interment will be at Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Farmington.
