Norma Viola Benton Chapman, 87, of Fruitland passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at her daughter's home in Fruitland. She was born Oct. 23, 1923, in Wittenberg, Mo., to Victor and Dorthea Kasten Roth. She and Charles "Zeke" Benton were married Nov. 16, 1941, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded June 23, 1988. She then married Raymond Chapman Feb. 8, 1993, who preceded her Dec. 10, 1999...

Norma Viola Benton Chapman, 87, of Fruitland passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at her daughter's home in Fruitland.

She was born Oct. 23, 1923, in Wittenberg, Mo., to Victor and Dorthea Kasten Roth. She and Charles "Zeke" Benton were married Nov. 16, 1941, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded June 23, 1988. She then married Raymond Chapman Feb. 8, 1993, who preceded her Dec. 10, 1999.

Norma worked at Davis Electric for 15 years before she and Charles began working at Main Street Lanes in Jackson. She enjoyed fishing, bowling and embroidery work, and was thought of as a grandmother to all of her family. She was a member of Fruitland Community Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty (Jerry) Dunn of Jackson; two brothers, Richard (Verna) Roth of Frohna, Mo., Milton (Billie) Roth of Seattle; two sisters-in-law, Lola Mae Wessel of Jackson, and Doris Ann Langston of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Jeri (Clifford) Palmer of Jackson, Darryl (Nicky) Dunn of Millersville, Gina Elliott of Jackson; seven great-grandchildren, Christopher Palmer of Jackson, Jessica Nicole Dunn of Rolla, Mo., Jessica Lyn Palmer and Joseph Palmer of Jackson, Stephen Dunn of Millersville, Caitlyn Palmer and Dillon Elliot of Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Verna Maevers.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mike Parry officiating.

Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
