NORBERT ZAHNER

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Norbert P. Zahner, 79, of Perryville died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 27, 1921, at Silver Lake, Mo., son of Henry and Viola Maddock Zahner. He and Iva Nobus were married Sept. 12, 1943.

He worked as a brick layer and laborer and then worked at Gilster-Mary Lee. He was a former member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and a former member of American Legion Post 133 and VFW Post 4282. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Ronald Zahner of Park Hills, Mo.; five daughters, Mary Ann Miget, Shirley French, Bettie Garris, Kathy Clifton and Tina Hager, all of Perryville; a brother, Clarence "Speedy" Zahner of Silver Lake; three sisters, Lee Ann Adams of St. Louis, Madeline Casgrave of East Moline, Ill., and Lucille Bauman of Ste. Genevieve; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. today and from 6:30 to 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at Young and Sons Funeral Chapel.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with the Rev. Kevin Fausz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Graveside military rites will be provided by American Legion Post 133.
