SIKESTON -- Nora Y. McVay, 81, of Sikeston died Saturday, March 30, 1996, at the Sells Rest Home in Matthews.
She was born July 3, 1914, at Double Springs, Ala., daughter of Wiley Brantley and Melissa Susan Peppers Young. She and Joseph Leonard McVay were married March 3, 1934, at New Madrid. He died Dec. 12, 1986.
McVay was a resident of Sikeston for most of her life. She was a member of the Kewanee Missionary Baptist Church in Kewanee and worked as a health care professional specializing in care for the elderly. She also helped her husband farm.
Survivors include four sons, Sterling McVay of Pekin, Ill., Eugene McVay of Sikeston, Charles McVay of Arnold and Linnie McVay of Pine Bluff, Ark.; three daughters, Melissia Zinn of Iola, Kan., Pearl Russell of Knoxville, Tenn., and Cherrion Stone of Pekin; two brothers, Dilmos Young of New Madrid and Travis Young of Poplar Bluff; a sister, Ola Chism of South Pekin, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.
Funeral service wil be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Randy Zinn officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
