Nona Imogene "Gene" Smith Pind, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at her home.
She was born Nov. 6, 1918, on the family farm at Jackson, daughter of Joe and Daisy Gholson Smith. She and Lester E. Pind were married Feb. 17, 1939. He preceded her in death March 23, 2000.
Survivors include children, Judy M. Brown, Jerry L. Pind (Marlena), Cherie J. Herbst (Bob), and Michael J. Pind. Grandchildren include Kevin Brown (Christina), Debbie Farrow (Don), Kimberly Richardson (Steve), Missy Smith (Lee), Luke Herbst, Carly Pind, Matt and Jay Click; along with seven great-grandchildren; and nieces, Karen Coleman, Linda Hickman and Donna Register.
Her parents; son-in-law, Dennis R. Brown; daughter-in-law, Janice Pind; and a sister, Mary Beth Coleman, preceded her in death.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and throughout the years was active in numerous organizations including Tuesday Club, Cite-Della Rose Garden Club, life member of Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary, Krafty Ladies Klub, Democrat Women of Cape County, past president of PTA.
She worked with her husband in operating Pind's Jewelry 46 years.
The family requests memorials to Missouri Girls Town or Southeast Hospice.
Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Kabo officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
