Nina Marie Feuerborn Schmidt, 69, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Effingham, Illinois, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, with her family at her side. She was born Jan. 28, 1945, in Effingham, daughter of Herbert "Buck" and Geraldine Tucker Feuerborn, the third of four children. Nina Marie Feuerborn Schmidt, 69, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Effingham, Illinois, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, with her family at her side.

She was born Jan. 28, 1945, in Effingham, daughter of Herbert "Buck" and Geraldine Tucker Feuerborn, the third of four children. She married her high-school sweetheart, Richard Schmidt, on Feb. 27, 1965, in Effingham.

Nina attended St. Anthony Grade School, Effingham High School and Eastern Illinois University. She and Richard owned and operated Burger Rich Family Restaurant, Baskin-Robbins 31 Flavors and the Peanut Shack.

She loved spending time with her family and the many cats and dogs she adopted through the years. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, where she donated her time as a "Lady of Charity."

Loving survivors include her husband of nearly 50 years, Richard; a son, Rick and wife Tyra Schmidt of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Kimberly Schmidt of St. Louis; two grandchildren, Kalei and Brayden Schmidt; two sisters, Sandra (Dick) Fruchtl of Effingham and Nancy Rimkus of Augusta, Georgia; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Nina will be forever missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Larry Feuerborn; and a very special Uncle Albert and Aunt Roma.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Effingham, with the Rev. Chris Brey officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Shriners Hospital for Children, 2001 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131-3597, or your local Humane Society.
