Nicholas Thorne Heisserer

Nicholas Thorne Heisserer, 18, left his earthly home Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023, to be united with Jesus for eternity.

Nicholas was born Jan. 13, 2005, in Cape Girardeau to proud parents Danny and Stacey Thorne Heisserer. He is the grandson of Kenny and Judy Heisserer of Kelso, Missouri, and Eldon and Velda Thorne of Patton, Missouri. He was blessed to have many loving aunts and uncles, including Debbie and Randy Wright of Farmer City, Illinois; Shannon and Mark Heisserer and Becky and Mike Montgomery, all of Jackson; Angie Thorne and Chris Cook of Patton; and Wade and Carrie Thorne of Patton. There are also numerous cousins and extended family who loved him dearly.

Nicholas graduated from Jackson High School in 2023. He was a member of the 2020 state champion football team. He may have been an only child, but he shared a brotherhood with his teammates that he deeply cherished. He felt helping the Indians to four straight conference titles was a crowning achievement. Nicholas also excelled on the Indian track team, garnering All-Conference honors in the shot put (first place) and second place in conference in discus during his senior campaign. He was currently attending Southeast Missouri State University.

Nicholas was a true outdoorsman in every sense of the word. His happiest moments were spending time at the farms of his grandparents in Kelso and Patton. Whether sitting in a deer stand, duck hunting over a spread of decoys or fishing in his boat, those were the things he enjoyed the most. Checking the refrigerator for Granny's leftovers and giving the best hugs are things he will be remembered for.

Known for his work ethic and attention to detail, he took pride in a job well done. Nicholas even started his own lawn care business in 2020. When his feet hit the floor every morning, he was looking forward to what the day might bring. He never slept the day away but enjoyed every second.

More than anything he was a true friend and cared about other people more than himself. He had an infectious smile and shared in others' successes with greater enjoyment than his own.

Our hearts will always be broken, and he took a piece of all of us with his departure. Everyone knew how much he loved Jesus, and now he has a special place next to Him.

Nicholas will never be forgotten, but loved each and every day, just like he did for the 18 short years we were blessed to have him in our lives.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, at Immaculate Conception Catholic School gym in Jackson.

The Rev. Randolph Tochtrop and Deacon Al Stoverink will celebrate the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson. Interment will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorial contributions may take the form of checks payable to the Nicholas Heisserer Memorial Fund.
