Newton Gilliland

Newton Harrison Gilliland, 82, of Jackson passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020.

He was born Jan. 12, 1938, in Cape Girardeau to the late Newton Franklin Gilliland and Grace Irene Willa Gilliland.

He married Jean Evelyn Baugher on September 1, 1970.

Newton worked alongside his brothers doing masonry work. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and all who knew him.

Survivors include sons, Newton Mathew and Christopher John Gilliland; daughter, Katherine Jean Wangler; brother, Lawrence Raymond "Sonny" Gilliland; sister, Kay Story; grandchildren, Christina Coann Gilliland, Amelia Grace Gilliland, Dallas Harrison Gilliland and Montelius Danny Gilliland: great-grandson, Noah Braxton Gilliland; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews; brothers- and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife and best friend of 55 years, Jean Evelyn Gilliland; his parents, Newton Franklin and Grace Irene Willa Gilliland; brothers, Dale, Frank and Robert Gilliland; sisters, Annabelle Ruebel, Grace Wille and Frances Irene Lineberry.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until noon Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at noon at the funeral home with the Rev. Jim Matthews officiating.

Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
