Neva Almeta Mowery, 93, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born July 13, 1916, in Greenway, Ark., to Robert N. and Lula Jane Edwards Travillian. She and James Wilton Mowery were married Nov. 20, 1937, in Greenway. He died Aug. 13, 2000.

Mrs. Mowery worked for various doctors in Cape Girardeau, and at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She was active in River City Business and Professional Women's Association, and in 1998 was named Missouri's BPW Woman of the Year.

She was a volunteer at Southeast Hospital until the age of 90, delivered Meals on Wheels and helped start Cape Girardeau FISH Pantry. She taught English as a second language. She was an active member of Maple United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school to several generations, and was a longtime member of United Methodist Women.

Survivors include a son, Donald R. (Ann) Mowery of Gordonville; a sister, Lorene Gatewood of Kennett, Mo.; three grandchildren, Kim (Ron) Smith of St. Peters, Mo., Jeff (Angie Ulmer) Mowery of Lake St. Louis, Mo., James Mowery of Gordonville; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Doyle, Dewayne and Jimmie Travillian; and two sisters, Geraldene Beal and Martene Davis.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Cooper officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Piggott Cemetery in Piggott, Ark.

Memorial contributions may be given to Maple United Methodist Building Fund.
