Nelson W. Amos, 82, of Jackson died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Feb. 13, 1923, in Allenville, son of Robert N. and Myrtle Byrne Amos. He and Kathryn Sanders were married April 4, 1947, at Chaffee, Mo. She died Jan. 29, 2003.
Mr. Amos was a painter and carpenter many years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Delta First Baptist Church, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy from December 1942 to January 1946.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Cheryl Amos of Jackson; a daughter-in-law, LeDena Amos Nelson of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, James Amos of Kalamazoo, Mich., Max Amos of Jackson; two sisters, Louise Eichhorn of Cape Girardeau, Mary Dannenmueller of Chaffee; two granddaughters, Shannon Amos Barrett and Nick Barrett of Cape Girardeau, Stephanie Amos Dunavan and Cary Dunavan of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandsons, Billy Jay Amos of Cape Girardeau, Rodney and Kara Amos of Jackson; three great-grandchildren, Jackson Barrett of Cape Girardeau, Bailey and Tyler Amos of Jackson; and a special friend, Laverne Simpson of Chaffee.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a son, Bill Amos; two brothers; and two sisters.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Delta First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Eric Hodge officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at Arbor.
