CHARLESTON -- Nellie Luckie, 87, of Charleston died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
She was born July 30, 1912, in Clarksdale, Miss., daughter of George and Mary Hazlett Washington. She first married William Gardner Jr. and later married Jodie Luckie. Both preceded her in death.
Luckie had been a certified nurse assistant and a teacher's aide.
She was a member of Mercy Seat Baptist Church and had served as Sunday School teacher and treasurer, trustee, and member of the Missionary Society.
Luckie was a member of Retired Senior Volunteer Program, served on the board of directors of Charleston Housing Authority, and was a member of Mississippi County Community Churches 17 years.
Survivors include a daughter, DelMarie Owens of Marion, Ind.; two sons, William Gardner of Charleston, Harry James of Auburn Hills, Mich.; a sister, Inez Hamilton of Charleston; two brothers, George Washington of Maywood, Ill., and Louis Avery of Gary, Ind.
Friends may call at Sparks Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Friday.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat Church, with the Revs. J.L. Posey and Wiley Reed officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
