Nellie Flora Blankenship, 96 of Carthage, Mo., formerly of Jackson, died Thursday, May 26, 2011, at St. Luke's Nursing Center in Carthage.
She was born Nov. 18, 1914, in Hickory Flat, Ky., to Isaiah Calvin and Alice Alma Wakefield Grace. She married Joe Flint Blankenship on Jan. 13, 1932, in Benton, Mo. He preceded her in death June 27, 1973.
She was a homemaker, and later in life she was a cook for Franklin and Washington schools in Cape Girardeau and did elder care.
She is survived by three sons, John (Marilyn) Blankenship of Burfordville, Mo, Bill (Jane) Blankenship of Farmington, Mo., Ronald (Beth) Blankenship of Kevil, Ky; a daughter, Betty J. (Al) Ashton of Carthage; 20 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.
Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until time of service today at Fruitland Church of Christ in Fruitland, Mo.
The funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. today at the church with Joe Chesser officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Fruitland Church of Christ.
