JACKSON -- Murtice M. "Murt" Propst, 64, of Jackson died Friday, April 11, 1997, at her home. She was born Nov. 12, 1932, at Sturdivant to Elwood and Eula Ramsey Rhodes. She married Gene "Buse" Jones Sept. 12, 1946. He died March 25, 1972. She then married Bill M. Propst on June 7, 1984. He survives...

JACKSON -- Murtice M. "Murt" Propst, 64, of Jackson died Friday, April 11, 1997, at her home.

She was born Nov. 12, 1932, at Sturdivant to Elwood and Eula Ramsey Rhodes.

She married Gene "Buse" Jones Sept. 12, 1946. He died March 25, 1972. She then married Bill M. Propst on June 7, 1984. He survives.

She was a cook for Southeast Missouri State University, the Frederick Street Manor in Cape Girardeau and the Jackson Boarding Home for 10 years and for the past six years for the former Deal Nursing Home in Jackson. She retired in October 1995 for health reasons. She was a former Avon representative and was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Jackson.

Survivors include three sons, Bobby Jones of Granite City, Ill., George Jones of Cape Girardeau and Steve Jones of Chaffee; three daughters, Emma McAlister of Chaffee, Julie Parmer of Dutchtown and Debbie Busch of Edwardsville, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Sharon Wellin of Gordonville and Carol Steimle of New Hamburg; a brother, Samuel "Dub" Rhodes of Cape Girardeau; a half-brother, Johnny Wessinger of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Faye Rainwater of Cape Girardeau; two half-sisters, Katie Lewis and Marine Bond, both of St. Louis; 17 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and three half-sisters.

Visitation will be from 8:30 to noon today at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

Funeral service will be at 2 today at the First General Baptist Church in Jackson. The Revs. Mike Huffman and Luther Rhodes will officiate.
