JACKSON -- Mr. W.C. "Bill" Lingo, age 78, of Jackson, passed away Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. JACKSON -- Mr. W.C. "Bill" Lingo, age 78, of Jackson, passed away Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born on Feb. 20, 1921, in Memphis, Tenn., the son of the late Lee and Lucille Davidson Lingo. On December 18, 1948, he married Jo Nelle Burress in Memphis. She survives of Jackson.

Other survivors include one son, William J. Lingo of Cape Girardeau and one daughter, Jana Lingo of Midlothian, Va., and two grandsons, Charles W. Lingo and Patrick A. Lingo, both of Cape Girardeau. He was preceded by two brothers and one sister.

Mr. Lingo graduated from the Southside High School in Memphis, Tenn. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and again during the Korean Conflict. He attended Memphis University and in 1954, he graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy.

Mr. and Mrs. Lingo moved to Jackson in 1955 when he began working for the former Fulenwider Drug Store. He also worked at the Jones Drug Stores in Jackson, as well as several other local pharmacies. In 1996, he retired from Tees Drug Store in Chaffee, where he had worked for 10 years.

He had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson since 1961, and had served as an Elder. Through many years of dedication, he had received his Life Membership in the White Station O.K. Houck Masonic Lodge and the White Station Order of Eastern Star in Memphis, Tenn., Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, both of Jackson. He was also a former Scout Troop Committeeman for Troop #11 in Jackson.

Friends may call at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson on Wednesday, Nov. 16th between 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17th at the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, where friends may call at 9 a.m. The Rev. Grant Gillard will officiate. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson or the Cape Senior Center Foundation.
