Monroe "Montey" Grimes, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Jan. 29, 2021, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 17, 1935, in Alton, Illinois, to Monroe Ganaway and Wilma Marie Scott Grimes.
He and Elizabeth Ann "Liz" Rose were married May 4, 1974, at Cape Girardeau. She preceded him in death Nov. 24, 2010.
He served in the Seabee Reserves.
Monroe was the area manager for Praxair Distribution Inc. for 39 years, retiring in 1999. After retirement, he worked for Special Design Health Care.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Elks.
Survivors include two sons, Jeffery Lynn (Valerie) Grimes of Byrnes Mill, Missouri, and Mark Jason (Misty) Grimes of Cape Girardeau; and four grandchildren, Matthew Grimes, Phillip Grimes, Kolby Grimes and Brynnan Grimes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a sister, Jo Donna Grimes.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Rick Jones officiating. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1913 Ritter Dr., Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
