CHARLESTON -- Modena Garwood, 81, formerly of Charleston, died Wednesday, April 23, 1997, at Calloway County Hospital in Murray, Ky.
She was born June 15, 1915, in Mississippi County, daughter of Everett and Mona Georgia Bailey Garwood.
Garwood was a graduate of Charleston High School, received a bachelor of science degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1943, and a master of arts degree in education from Peabody Teachers College in Nashville, Tenn., in 1956.
She was a teacher from 1933-78, having taught at Mississippi County schools of Gravel Ridge, Bridges and Charleston. She was principal of schools at Bertrand, Charleston, and Anniston.
Survivors include a brother, Dr. Glen Garwood of Murray.
She was preceded in death by a sister.
Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 5-8 p.m. Friday.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gerald Collier officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery.
