DEXTER -- Funeral for Mitchel Edwards of Dexter will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at Watkins and Sons Chapel in Dexter. Mike Yates and Dale Grissom will officiate. Burial will be in Chalk Bluff Cemetery near Dexter.
Edwards, 78, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 19, 1921, at Bloomfield, son of Curt and Rosa Harris Edwards. He and Vera Louise Waggoner were married Nov. 19, 1941. She died May 14, 1997.
Edwards lived at Dexter most of his life. He owned and operated Edwards Saveway Grocery many years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeanie Barker of Dexter, Donna Barnes of Sunrise Beach; a sister, Mildred Hyslop of Bloomfield; two brothers, Clarence Edwards of Bull Head City, Ariz., Marvin Edwards of Whittemore, Mich.; three grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
