MORLEY -- Funeral service for Miller "Bill" Gilliland of Morley was held Saturday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. The Rev. Gaylon Butler officiated, with burial in New Morley Cemetery.

Gilliland, 79, died Friday, Jan. 31, 1992, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 15, 1913, in Oneonta, Ala., son of James Wiley and Lucy Blaylock Gilliland. He and Bessie Letha Rodgers were married May 23, 1931, at Morley.

Gilliland farmed 43 years, and then was a custodian/bus driver for Scott County Central Schools. He was a member of First Baptist Church at Morley. He was also a former mayor of Morley.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Billy Gilliland Sr. of Morley, Henry Gilliland of Rolla, Robert Gilliland of Independence, Leonard Gilliland of Robertsville, David Gilliland of Thayer; six daughters, Geneva DuMay of Cape Girardeau, Jackie Alexander of Whitinsville, Mass., Geraldine Colter of Poplar Bluff, Nancy Pruitt of Morley, Janet Dodson and Dianne Thatcher of Sikeston; 36 grandchildren, and 45 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, five brothers and a sister.
