Milfred Crumbaugh

ROCKVIEW, Mo. -- Milfred Crumbaugh of Springfield, Ill., departed this life to be with his lord Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born in 1931 to Elisha and Effie Crumbaugh in Rockview, Mo., he lived 78 joy-filled years.

His life and legacy are celebrated by his wife of 54 years, Camille Crumbaugh; children, Steve (Elena) Crumbaugh, Jeanette Martin, Bill (Lisa) Crumbaugh; grandchildren, Joshua (Erin), Andrew (Ramona), Matthew, and Emily Martin, Nikolai, Emma and Anna Crumbaugh; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Hannah Martin; sisters, Ruth Long and Mildred Eldridge.

His parents and a brother, Charles, preceded him in death.

Milfred served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1952 to 1954.

He retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation. For 50 years he has been active in Springfield First Baptist Church, serving as deacon and trustee.

Milfred was a hunter safety instructor for decades, and a Boy Scout leader since 1966. He served on the Abraham Lincoln Council Executive Board and served as parade marshal of the Lincoln Pilgrimage 32 years. He received the OA Vigil Honor, District Award of Merit and Silver Beaver.

Milfred was an avid outdoorsman, a loving family man and a friend to all who knew him. We mourn his passing but thank God he was part of our lives.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield, and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Springfield First Baptist Church.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with Pastor Jeff Whitehouse officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
