Funeral mass for Michael M. Halter, 625 S. Pacific, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jay Gibson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3838.

Friends may call at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel after 5:30 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 7 and KC rosary at 7:30.

Halter, 71, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 1995, at Cape Girardeau Nursing Center.

He was born March 11, 1923, in Oran, son of Henry and Ida Nagel Halter. He and Loretta Messmer were married Aug. 27, 1944.

Halter was a deckhand with the Army Corps of Engineers 33 years, and then worked at Todt Sheet Metal. He was a member of St. Vincent's Church and 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 1111. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Jerome, Lester and Larry Halter of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Romanus Halter of Cape Girardeau, and Andrew Halter of St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by a son, brother and sister.
