Michael Jeffers

Michael Reed Jeffers, 16, of Jackson, died Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born May 2, 1991, in Tucson, Ariz., son of Chad and Katherine (Mouser) Jeffers.

Michael; his mother, Katherine Moshiri; and little sisters, Madison and Meghan Moshiri, were victims of gunshots received during a murder-suicide tragedy at their home in Jackson on Monday, Dec. 3. Shawn Moshiri was the assailant and eventually turned his weapon on himself.

Katherine is now at the hospital bedside of her youngest and only surviving child, Meghan.

Madison passed away Monday, Dec. 3, at the home.

Michael was a junior at Jackson High School. He was a member of the JAGAR club (Jackson Area Gamers and Role Players) and had many friends in the group. He had a passion for video games and computers. He was admired for his playing skills and was a humble winner and a determined loser.

Michael enjoyed popcorn and was known to leave a trail of empty bags wherever he went. He was the jokester in class and was quick with a funny comment or observation. His friends loved him for his infectious spirit of fun. He adored his family and sisters who looked up to their big brother.

Paternal survivors include his loving father, Chad (Elizabeth) Jeffers and their daughter, Melinda all of Seattle; grandmother, Donna Trumbo; and two great-grandmothers, all of Watertown, N.Y.; several uncles, aunts and cousins.

Maternal survivors include his mother, his sister, Meghan Moshiri of Jackson; grandparents, Jerry Mouser of Fruitland, and Roberta Knights and her husband, Raymond, of Las Vegas; a cousin, Taylor Lynn Mouser of Cape Girardeau and her father, Robert Mouser and his family of Jackson; great-grandfather, Timon Mouser and his family of Bixby, Mo.; aunts; uncles; and cousins too numerous to name.

Michael was preceded in death by an infant brother, Matthew Moshiri (June 27, 2002 -- June 27, 2002).

A joint memorial service for Madison and Michael is planned. McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson anticipates the date and time to be confirmed no later than Wednesday and will place notification in the newspaper.

The family respectfully requests memorials in lieu of flowers. A fund has been established at Bank of America -- The Moshiri Family Fund. Contributions or prayers are appreciated.
