Michael David Duncan, 57, of Cape Girardeau died at 1:04 a.m. Sunday, June 25, 2017, at Southeast Hospital.
Mike, along with his wife, Melissa, owned Duncan Mechanical LLC, providing heating, ventilation and air-conditioning services to residential and commercial clients in the tri-state area for over 22 years.
He was born July 31, 1959, and was the son of Rita M. Winchester Duncan and his adoptive father, Doyle V. Duncan.
Mike attended Cahokia High School in Cahokia, Illinois. At the age of 19, he began working in the HVAC trade in the Los Angeles area. He moved to the Cape Girardeau area in 1989 and worked with local contractors before launching Duncan Mechanical LLC with his wife in September 1994.
Mike was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on July 8, 1989, at a District Convention of Jehovah's Witnesses at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. He regularly shared in Bible educational work and spent countless hours volunteering his time, labor and expertise in the construction of Kingdom Halls in the tri-state area. During the past two years, he spent a total of six weeks as a volunteer during the construction of the new World Headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses in Warwick, New York.
Mike's reputation for dependability and honest business practices was instrumental in the growth of his HVAC business. One large corporate client said of him: "Mike was a great person to work with and vital to our organization. He was also a very good, loyal and honest man, which was the foundation for us having such a long and successful working relationship together."
On Nov. 4, 1989, Mike married Melissa Carol Hill, who survives with their son, Michael Lucas.
Other survivors include his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Carolyn Hill of Gilbertsville, Kentucky; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Lisa Hill of Bertrand, Missouri; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Vijay and Valerie Bhatia of Holmes, New York; niece, Emily (Atsuki) Morishita of China; and nephews, Nicholas and Alexander Bhatia of Holmes.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Rita Duncan of Cape Girardeau, and his grandmother, Ruth Miller of Olive Branch, Illinois.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1150 S. Silver Springs Road in Cape Girardeau.
A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall, with Earl Norman as officiating minister.
