PERRYVILLE, Mo. — Merlin Orville Kasten, 89, of Perryville passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2023.
He was born Oct. 9, 1933, in Uniontown, Missouri, to Oscar and Martha Rasche Kasten.
He was baptized Oct. 15, 1933, at Grace Lutheran Church in Uniontown by the Rev. J.M. Mueller. He was then confirmed April 4, 1948, by the Rev. Hafner at Grace Lutheran Church.
On Sept. 3, 1955, Merlin and Ruby Wahlers were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Longtown, Missouri. They were married 67 years.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville.
He worked at McBride Airport for 43 years as a mechanic and then as an inspector. He retired from Sabreliner.
He enjoyed the Cardinals, gardening and woodworking. He loved the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby, and two children, Douglas Kasten and Holly Brown; brothers, Clyde Kasten and Ronald Steinkamp; four grandchildren, Eric Kasten, Tiffany Kasten, Zachary Mais and Lauren Thomas; three stepgrandchildren, Dustin Rees, Tyler Rees and Kyle Rees; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are sisters, Ella (Lou) Brasca and Gladys (Clifford) Duggin; brothers, Edwin (Delphine) Kasten, Kenneth (Claire) Kasten and Robert (Brenda) Kasten.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Ford and Young Funeral Home in Perryville.
A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joseph Schlie officiating. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Perryville.
