RED BUD, Ill. � Merle C. �Abby� Abercrombie, 96, of Red Bud passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Delmar Gardens South in Sappington, Missouri. He was born May 1, 1922, in McClure, Illinois. Merle retired as a switchman for the railroad, but filled his time with artistic painting, lettering, working with sheet metal, heating and cooling, was a milk man and he was the first Boy Scout headmaster in Red Bud...

RED BUD, Ill. � Merle C. �Abby� Abercrombie, 96, of Red Bud passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Delmar Gardens South in Sappington, Missouri.

He was born May 1, 1922, in McClure, Illinois.

Merle retired as a switchman for the railroad, but filled his time with artistic painting, lettering, working with sheet metal, heating and cooling, was a milk man and he was the first Boy Scout headmaster in Red Bud.

Surviving are two sons, Tyler (Christine) Abercrombie and Barton (Theresa) Abercrombie; brother, Robert (Bernell) Abercrombie; grandchildren, Michelle Abercrombie, Tyler Andrew (Karol) Abercrombie, Christopher (Jennifer) Abercrombie, Stacy (Matthew) Harp and Jason (Kelli) Abercrombie; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Lauren, Andrew, MaryJane and Jackson Abercrombie and Lainey and Colton Harp; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean (nee Phillips); parents, Chester and Cecil Miles Abercrombie; and a brother, John L. Abercrombie.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Koch-Liefer Funeral Home in Red Bud.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Anna City Cemetery, Anna, Illinois.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude memorial contributions be directed to St. Anthony�s Hospice in St. Louis.
