PERRYVILLE -- Melvin D. Niswonger, 65, of Perryville, died Tuesday, May 21, 1996, at his home.
He was born Dec. 25, 1930, in Cape Girardeau, son of Pink and Ella Welker Niswonger. He and Elta Lydia Blandford were married Aug. 9, 1952. She died April 10, 1995.
Niswonger retired as public works director for the city of Perryville. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, VFW Post 4282 and American Legion Post 133. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Survivors include two sons, Russell "Bucky" Schindler of Arnold, Darrell Niswonger of White Heath, Ill.; a daughter, Elizabeth Kimmich of Perryville; two brothers, Gary Niswonger of Jackson, Larry Niswonger of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Belva Litzelfelner of Jackson, Faye Schreiner of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Young and Sons Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. today, and Friday from 6:30 a.m. until service time.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jeffrey Lloyd officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Cemetery.
