Melody Lynn Morton, 55, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Feb. 25, 1960, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Nathan L. and Doradeane Smith Jackson. She and Gregory A. Morton were married May 19, 1979...

Melody Lynn Morton, 55, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Feb. 25, 1960, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Nathan L. and Doradeane Smith Jackson. She and Gregory A. Morton were married May 19, 1979.

Melody was a 1978 graduate of Jackson High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson and a member of the River Heritage Quilt Guild in Cape Girardeau. She and Greg returned to Jackson in 1988, after he received an honorable discharge from military service.

Loving survivors include her husband of 36 years; two sons, Andrew R. and Jacob T. Morton of Jackson; a sister, Stephanie (Timothy) Morton of Fredericktown, Missouri; her mother-in-law, Agnes Morton of Cape Girardeau; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her father-in-law.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, with parish prayers at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Harth officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
