Mederith Gale "M.G." Holland, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born Sept. 27, 1933, in Swinton, Missouri, son of Herman and Zelphia Pearl Lewis Holland. He and Derenda Foust were married June 20, 1965, at First Assembly of God Church in Sikeston, Missouri.

M.G. began working for the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop E Drivers License Division in 1956. He retired in 1990 as a supervisor. He was a member of Cape First Assembly of God Church since 1966. He served on the board of directors as church treasurer 18 years. He was also a member of Harold O. Grauel Lodge 672, Capaha Scottish Rite Club of Southeast Missouri, Scottish Rite of St. Louis 32nd Degree Mason and St. Mark's Chapter 167 OES.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Derenda Holland; two daughters, Tonya Holland Evans (Don) of Charleston, Missouri, and Tamara Holland Sondgeroth (Jason) of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; four grandsons. Zachary (Sharon) Smith and Travis (Debby) Smith of Sikeston, Nathan and Cody Sondgeroth of Sun Prairie; two great-grandchildren, Travis G. Smith and Kaitlynn Smith; and a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Holland of St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dolores Holland Wessel; and three brothers, Deloit, J.E. and Dale Holland.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with Masonic service at 7 p.m.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Gary Brothers and Charles Lance officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
