DEXTER, Mo. -- Maxine Barber, 88, of Dexter departed this life Saturday, May 29, 2010, at her home. Daughter of the late Dan and Willa Segraves Courter, she was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Reno, Ark. She and William Newt Barber were married Feb. 19, 1944, in Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death March 15, 2009...

DEXTER, Mo. -- Maxine Barber, 88, of Dexter departed this life Saturday, May 29, 2010, at her home.

Daughter of the late Dan and Willa Segraves Courter, she was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Reno, Ark. She and William Newt Barber were married Feb. 19, 1944, in Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death March 15, 2009.

Mrs. Barber was a member of Dexter Church of Christ.

She is survived by three daughters, Sue Jones of Dexter, Brenda Nicolai of Jackson, Judy Barber of Kimmswick, Mo.; a sister, Wanda Green of Wappapello, Mo.; four grandchildren, Danny Jones, Randy Jones, Tammy Mantor, Tim Nicolai; four great-grandchildren, Rilee Jones, Samantha Jones, Jared Mantor, Blake Mantor; and three special caregivers, Patsy Ashlock, Kathy Ross and Linda Lou Boehls.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William "Sonny" Barber; five brothers, Rufus, Donald, Billy, W.D. and Rondal Courter; three sisters, Wilma VanPool, Helen Harris and Aline Thomen.

The funeral was held Tuesday at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, with Dale Grissom officiating. Interment was in Dexter Cemetery.
