Maurice Lange

Maurice H. Lange, 91, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, June 2, 2019, at Southeast Hospital.

He was born Feb. 25, 1928, in Egypt Mills to Herbert and Lula Haupt Lange. He and Marie M. Kester were married June 9, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

He served in the Army Signal Corp from 1946 to 1948, most of the time on Iwo Jima.

He was employed for 44 years at Southeast Telephone, Southwestern Bell and AT&T, retiring May 14, 1989. He was president of Communication Workers of America Local 6316 and the local chapter of Telephone Pioneers.

He was a former board member of the Cape County Senior Citizen Tax Board and Camp SEMO Wappapello. He was also a member of American Legion Post 63 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3838.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 80 years. He was the chairman of the congregation, member of the choir and served on several boards.

Survivors include his wife, Marie M. Lange of Cape Girardeau; daughter, Rebecca Susan Jones of Cape Girardeau; son, John Steven Lange of St. Charles, Missouri; sister, Margaret Erickson of Washington, Illinois; granddaughter, Heather Marie Jones of Cape Girardeau; and two great-grandchildren, Luke and Logan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and an infant granddaughter, Jessica Lange.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

Service will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Revs. Douglas Breite and Daniel Maske officiating.

Burial, with full military honors, will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran School Foundation and Trinity Lutheran Choir.
