DEXTER -- Maudie Maye Smith, 81, died Sunday, May 4, 1997, at Dexter Nursing Center.
She was born Nov. 19, 1915, in Cardwell, daughter of William and Susie Swain Davis. She and Burl Smith were married Jan. 16, 1940. He died Feb. 5, 1981.
Smith had lived all her life in the Dudley and Dexter communities. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church at Dexter.
Survivors include five sons, Jonia and Floyd Smith of Poplar Bluff, Jimmy Smith of Louisiana, Lloyd Smith of Dexter, A.J. Hart of Clarksville, Ark.; three daughters, Edith Frazier and Faye Hendley of Dexter, Jean Burnett of Dudley; two stepsons, Joe Smith of Dexter, Burley Smith of Indianapolis, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Martha Keys of Kansas City; 62 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, three sons, a stepdaughter, a brother, and two sisters.
Friends may call at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Dudley Cemetery at Dudley.
