Mattie O. Ellis, 77, of Shawnee, Okla., died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, in a Shawnee hospital.
She was born July 2, 1927, in Reydon, Okla., daughter of Herbert E. and Lily Hamon Hill. She and Bill D. Ellis were married Sept. 4, 1945, in Denver, Colo.
Ellis received a bachelor of science degree from Southeast Missouri State University, and a master's degree from Southeastern State University. She was an elementary teacher 27 years, having taught at May Greene and Washington schools.
She lived in Cape Girardeau 30 years. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and Missouri State Teachers Association.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Suzann Wilson of Olathe, Kan., LouAnn Tipps of North Richland Hills, Texas, Sheryl Shutt of Stillwater, Okla.; three brothers, Thomas Hill of Kingfisher, Okla., John Hill of Lincoln, Neb., Donald Hill of Fritz, Texas; a sister, Leona Lohmeyer of Kingfisher; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Baptist Church, with Dr. Todd Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Kingfisher Cemetery.
Walker Funeral Service in Shawnee is in charge of arrangements.
