Mata E. Hempstead, 66, 906 Ranney, died Sunday, May 12, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center.
She was born March 3, 1930, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Joe L. and Louise Cardwell Woods. She and Shelton Hempstead were married Oct. 29, 1954, in Reno, Nev. He died Dec. 11, 1995.
Hempstead worked in food service at Southeast Missouri State University from 1978-94. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include a son, Shelton Hempstead Jr. of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Sherrie and Emma Hempstead of Cape Girardeau, Joann Freeman of Indiana; a stepson, Craig Hunt of Jackson; three stepdaughters, Patricia, Shaton and Evelyn Hunt of Cape Girardeau; 22 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Kingdom Hall, with Bill Bowen officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.
