Mary Ann Poorman Young, 71, of Scott City was called to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, May 4, 2015. She was born Nov. 8, 1943, in Chaffee, Missouri, to Elmer and Mima Lee Poorman. Mary retired from teaching at Echo State School in Cape Girardeau in 2014. She was a lay speaker and pianist with the Methodist church 25 years. Mary Ann Poorman Young, 71, of Scott City was called to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, May 4, 2015.

She was born Nov. 8, 1943, in Chaffee, Missouri, to Elmer and Mima Lee Poorman.

Mary retired from teaching at Echo State School in Cape Girardeau in 2014. She was a lay speaker and pianist with the Methodist church 25 years. Her smile, laughter, energy and faith touched many and welcomed every person she met.

Survivors include two sons, Melvin Troy and Christopher Shawn; and a sister, Joyce Sander.

Along with her parents, two brothers, Delbert Earl and Arthur Lee, preceded her in death

A memorial and celebration of life will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Broadway United Methodist Church in Scott City.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to local organizations such as the Salvation Army, Teen Challenge, the Women's Shelter or your local church.
