ULLIN, Ill. -- Mary Alice Stringer, 80, of Ullin died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was born Oct. 17, 1921, in Wetaug, Ill., daughter of Leroy and Nannie Bagby Stoner. She and Charles Stringer were married March 16, 1946. He died Aug. 11, 1999...

ULLIN, Ill. -- Mary Alice Stringer, 80, of Ullin died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Oct. 17, 1921, in Wetaug, Ill., daughter of Leroy and Nannie Bagby Stoner. She and Charles Stringer were married March 16, 1946. He died Aug. 11, 1999.

Stringer was a licensed funeral director and embalmer. She owned and operated Stoner Funeral Home in Ullin from 1945 to 1978. After retirement, she was the organist at the funeral home. She was also a bus driver for Century School for 18 years, a member of Cross Road United Methodist Church at Ullin, the Ullin Civic Club and worked in transportation and outreach for Smiles II in Ullin for 14 years.

Survivors include two sons, Stephen Stringer and David Stringer, both of Ullin; a daughter, Charlene McClendon of Ullin; and nine grandchildren.

Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin after 5 p.m. today and until the time of the service on Tuesday.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. John Clark and Rev. Richard Martin will officiate with burial in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens.
