Mary Margaret Statler, 78, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born Nov. 19, 1923, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Wilson E. and Doraretta Searcey Blumenberg. She was united in marriage to Burl R. Statler on March 21, 1947, in Cape Girardeau. He survives.

Mrs. Statler attended Central High School. She worked at International Shoe Co. 14 years. She was a homemaker since 1957. She also baby-sat and cared for the sick and elderly. Other interests included nutrition and genealogy. She researched the families of Blumenberg, Bierschwal, Sander, Searcey, Herzog, and Statler.

She was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church and former member of Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society.

Survivors include her husband, and a sister, Betty Hudson (Mrs. Kenneth) of Jackson, Mo. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

A sister, Louise Brown, preceded her in death March 1, 1999.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home at noon Wednesday.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jerry Statler officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
