Mary Francis Squires, 79, of Cape Girardeau, died Friday, July 22, 2011, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Peters, Mo.
She was born March 29, 1932, at Cape Girardeau, to James Louis and Alma Davis Penny. She and Dock Squires were married June 15, 1958, at Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death Nov. 5, 1982.
Squires attended Cobb School until the 10th grade.
She worked as a housekeeper for Dr. George Magaletta for many years. She was a nurse's aide at Saint Francis Medical Center until the early 1980s. She retired as a nurse's aide from Chateau Girardeau in 1994.
She was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Valerie Squires of Cape Girardeau, Gwendolyn Squires and Debra Williams, both of Kansas City, Mo., and Anita Squires of St. Charles, Mo.; three granchildren, Brese Squires, Shakara Jones and Sharese Jones, all of St. Charles; three brothers, Steve Edwards and Robert Edwards, both of Cape Girardeau, and Joe Louis Penny of Chicago; and a sister, Rose White of Sikeston, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, two brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Johnny Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmont Cemetery.
