CAHOKIA, Ill. -- Mary Margaret Sanford, 84, of Cahokia, Ill., died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Ill.

Sanford was born June 8, 1925, in Fornfelt, Mo., the daughter of Andrew and Clara (nee Zent) Scherer. She and Harvey B. Sanford Sr. were married May 19, 1946, at Fornfelt.

She was retired from Woolworths in St. Louis. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Cahokia.

Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Harvey B. Sanford Sr.; her children, Harvey B. (Candy) Sanford Jr. of Collinsville, Ill., Linda K. Sanford of Collinsville, Ill.; two grandchildren, Melissa (Matt) Guetterman and Andrew Sanford; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Mason Guetterman. She was also a dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Ann Sanford; her parents; her brother, Michael Scherer; and three sisters, Virginia Bartels, Dorothy Cotner and Irene McClanahan.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Braun Colonial Funeral Home in Cahokia, and from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

Funeral Mass will be at noon Tuesdayat Holy Family Catholic Church in Cahokia, with the Rev. John Patrick Day officiating.

A prayer service will be conducted at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Oliver Clavin at Amick-Burnett funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Scott City.

Memorials may be made to Cystic Fibrosis or American Cancer Society.
