Mary Lee Bishop, age 98, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021, at her home.
She was born Aug. 13, 1922, in Cape Girardeau to Odis and Lillian Nanney Seabaugh.
She and W. Glenn Bishop were married Feb. 2, 1946, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death Aug. 17, 1990.
She was a loving mother to Bill (Cathy) Bishop of Cape Girardeau; Bob (Donna) Bishop of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; and Cinda (Greg) Parker of Orlando, Florida; grandmother to Angie (Brad) Libhart of Mount Pleasant; Brian Amlingmyer of Summerville, South Carolina; Beth (Ryan) McClure of St. Louis; T.J. (Kaci) Bishop of Cape Girardeau; Jameson Parker of Orlando; and Katelyn (Ben) Shuford of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; "GG" to eight great-grandchildren and "Aunt Mary" to numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews around the country.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Odis and Milford.
Mary Lee spent much of her time creating a warm and welcoming home for her family and friends. She hosted holidays and bridge club, and you could always count on a crowd when she cooked her famous chicken and dumplings or pot roast.
She and her husband Glenn owned and operated the Blue Hole Bar-B-Que, a Cape Girardeau favorite, for 20 years until they retired in 1987.
Mary Lee began volunteering with SoutheastHEALTH Auxiliary in 1991 and logged over 6,000 hours of service. Her favorite duties included delivering flowers to patients and knitting and donating well over 1,000 baby caps to the nursery. In 2015 the organization honored her with the Ilena Aslin Service Award.
She was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church and was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority for many years.
Private services will be held Monday. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to Centenary United Methodist Church.
