CAIRO, Ill. -- Mary E. Fischer, 53, of Cairo, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 1995, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born June 21, 1941, in Cairo, daughter of Arthur and Josephine Moreland Kaha. She married John A. Fischer Jr.
Fischer was a billing clerk at Daystar Care Center and member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
She was a member and regent of Daughters of Isabella Circle 331, was currently area coordinator for the State Circle, and was nominated this year for state office.
Fischer was instrumental in developing and maintaining Girl Scouting in Alexander County since 1975. She was currently cookie co-chairman, co-service unit director, co-annual giving chairman, and program committee member of Otahki Council troops of Alexander County.
She has served as chairman of council events and public relations officer. In 1985 she received the Thanks Badge, the highest recognition for adult volunteers with Girl Scouts.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Julie Stone and Jane Fischer; a son, Jamie Fischer; her mother, all of Cairo; a sister, Josephine Lutz of Oran; three brothers, Arthur Kaha of Champaign, Matthew Kaha of Milan, Peter Kaha of Kentwood, Mich., and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and a son.
Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo after 5 p.m. today. The rosary will be at 7.
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Church, with the Rev. Jerome Fortenberry officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Villa Ridge.
